NOTE: This is a shortened version of what will be coming in the future on Saturdays. Also, I turned on the paywall for the newsletter which will be the same as Revue. It’s set up for everyone to receive a newsletter whether you donate or not. The monthly fee is $3.00, and yearly for $30.00. That includes a 40% discount off the minimum $5.00 fee Substack has set.
Again this isn’t mandatory and I hope no one leaves because of this. THe plan for the New Year is to add a podcast on this page and that might be the VIP treatment for people who donate. We’ll see.

I don’t know if the archives will ever get transferred so that’s why I numbered this issue #1. Hope you don’t mind. I know most of you know Patti and I’ve been doing this for some time so there’s no need for the archives going forward if they can’t be fixed. Maybe I can do just a list of URLs for my archives. We will see!
Things will be a little different on this platform as far as layout. We trust you’ll like it.
As Always…

Del Norte Country Beach
The California coastline is full of treasures.
What you’ll find nestled among Redwood National and State Parks in Humboldt and Del Norte counties is no exception. In fact, it’s completely in line to call that part of the Golden State the standard of “postcard scenery.”
The Mission District
Laid-back but always buzzing, San Francisco’s Mission District is a neighborhood like no other.
Humming with the Latino culture that’s been its foundation for generations, that heritage shines in the area's heady mix of trendy cafés, posh retail shops and chic co*cktail bars standing shoulder to shoulder with taquerías, bodegas, thrift stores and dive bars.Want Something to Do?

The Very Pink Madonna Inn
Even if you haven’t been to Madonna Inn, the monument to kitsch in San Luis Obispo along the Central Coast, you’ve probably seen it already, if only on social media. The gleaming pink building is hard to miss, even when you’re scrolling. If the bright pink and gold dining room doesn’t catch your eye or the curving bar with its rough-hewn rocks and stained glass, maybe it’s the pool built into the mountainside or the endless variety of highly themed rooms available for rent.

The Santa Maria BBQ
California has its own home-grown barbecue style, but outside of the Central Coast, few know of it. It’s called Santa Maria, and it’s California through and through: no-nonsense, seemingly effortless and impossible to replicate.
The secret behind the eponymous barbecue, charred on the outside, pink in the middle, is its simplicity. No dry rub. No waking up at 4 a.m. to fire up the smoker. No sticky, sweet brown sugar sauces. No burnt ends. It’s as simple as "turn and burn, baby," at least according to one of its longest-tenured pitmasters, Mark Souza.
What I’m Listening to & Reading!
While I work on the newsletters I am always tuned into something that helps me get through the work. Also since my ADHD always seems to act up when I’m working on the newsletter I have to occupy that moment with something other than writing or laying out the next issue and that’s where reading comes in.
So, I thought I would share with you each week what music and reading helped me get through each issue. Hope you don’t mind.
Reading:
Leonardo Da Vinci, by Walter Issacson (that’s an Amazon link, but I do not get any bucks for this link). This has been a long read for me. I pick it up when I need something to get me through another trying ADHD event if nothing else works. I’ve enjoyed reading it so far and maybe you will also.
Listening:
War-The World is a Ghetto, November 1972 (album link) Do you remember The Cisco Kid television show?
