Day beacons are signs that are permanently attached to structures, such as posts, in the water. They usually are not lighted but are made of retroreflective and/or fluorescent material.
Starboard Hand Day Beacon: Starboard hand day beacons are triangular. They have a red triangle in the centre of a white background and a red border. Keep them on your starboard (right) side when travelling upstream.

Port Hand Day Beacon: Port hand day beacons are square. They have a black or green square in the centre of a white background and a green border. Keep them on your port (left) side when travelling upstream.
