Is AAAS a credible source? ›

AAAS builds trust among scientists and engineers and broader communities and is a valued source of accurate scientific information that is foundational to countering misinformation.

In addition to peer-reviewed journals, AAAS provides an array of print and online resources for educators, students, early-career scientists and engineers, reporters, and the public.

Its mission is “advance science for the benefit of all people.” Its goals include providing a voice for science on societal issues and promoting the responsible use of science in public policy.

While all AAAs receive OAA funding, other budgetary sources and levels vary due to a variety of factors, including Medicaid participation, the robustness of state general funds and the availability of other federal and non-federal sources of funding.

In scientific research, academic journals are the most credible sources available. Scholarly databases, such as Google Scholar and JSTOR, are also great resources since most articles and books are peer-reviewed, originate from reputable publishing bodies and have already been cited by numerous researchers.

How reliable are peer-reviewed papers? ›

Peer-review is by no means perfect. It is itself subject to bias, as most things in research are. Evidence from a peer-reviewed article does not make it reliable, based only on that fact.

Eligibility for nomination requires an individual to have been a continuous member of AAAS for four years by the end of the calendar year in which they would be elected. No Fellow may serve as a sponsor, whether primary, secondary or tertiary, on more than two 3-Fellow nominations in one year.
