when did you first warn about his passing uh I heard about it was shortly after uh 11 o’clock this morning Eastern correct yes here excuse me uh you know I don’t I don’t think I’m in a position to release comment on any of the details until you know the family spoken about it Jay in 2021 Grayson had tweeted that the tour hadn’t helped him enough what subsequent conversations did you or your staff members have after that and now when you look back on that was that kind of a defining moment yeah you know I when Grayson said that I called him right away and um you know over the last several years I spent a lot of time with him and cuz I wanted to understand what we could do in his estimation in his opinion to help everybody else out here um and you know we’ve made a number of advancements um along those lines and you know it’s it’s become a real point of focus and emphasis we’re proud of you know the programs we have in place to support um our players to support everybody out here and um you know I’m I’m devastated by Grayson’s loss obviously um but not but the conversations I had with him particularly the last year um I learned an awful lot from him and you know he was very open and transparent with me um and you know most importantly like I think back to he was talking about you know how he was interested in real estate and how he had become interested in things he wasn’t interested in before he talked about you know just the peace he had in his life and um he talked about you know go back to that Sony Open transcript I mean everything he talked about when after he won the Sony Open um he talked to a lot of people about and I found inspiration in that personally I also found inspiration in that as a leader um of this tour and does this show you though that there’s still a lot of work to be done moving forward in this area of helping tour players well I I mean the the question you’re asking I just want to be clear like we don’t know the circ*mstances around Grayson’s passing you know conversations with with Grayson in the past um you know in the area of mental health um you can I mean we’re always challenging ourselves to make certain that we’re um you know that we’re on the front edge of being able to provide the support that we can for everybody out here and I think it’s listen these are the some of the best athletes in the world they think they’re you know and they are in many respects invincible and you know I think one of the things that I think back about Grayson’s openness is and I speak about courage they they taught us all a lesson on that front and um that’s something I’ll never forget sir you had the opportunity to know him better than a lot of us ever will what is one thing that he taught you that’s going to stick with you and what is the Legacy that he’s left on this others to always remember I I think his leg Legacy is I think one of the elements of his legacy is his resiliency so you know you think of going back to 2017 winning the barbasol championship going back and forth between the corn furry tour and the PGA Tour winning three times in the corn furry tour um taking self ass assessing coming back uh becoming in his own eyes a stronger human being and then winning three times in the past year um I mean it just to me you know that that’s a level of resiliency that is extraordinary in those conversations over the past year what was the feedback from him about how the tour was doing did did he seem to indicate the tour was doing better in areas of mental health Etc in those conversations you know he didn’t he didn’t specifically say that we were always talking about how we could you know when we talk and when we talked about the subject it was what could we be doing to get better um or just updating them on where we were amongst some many other topics that he and I he and I talked about he was he had he had very strong opinions he was um you know and he challenged us um and I found that to be very helpful because you can learn a lot when people speak their truth in the way that he did J what is the have planed for tomorrow try to honor him you know we’re we’re we’ going to go back and convene as a team and our Focus has been on his family and everybody out here and obviously honoring and respecting respecting him today and then we’ll get to tomorrow you know soon as we’re out of here and it’s not just about tomorrow it’s about the weeks ahead it’s about the months ahead it’s you know it’s he’s a lot of people that are going to be carrying a heavy heart for a long period of time out in the PGA Tour and there’s a family that um is obviously devastated that we need to support all right thank you J thanks Jay

The deamons a recovering alcoholic goes through are many, he suffered from a mental illness… golfers are alone more than they're not… may God grant peace to his soul….

Just another political puppet. Speaking in circles. The man tweeted that the PGA didn’t do enough to provide him with what he felt would have helped him. Just another failure Jay has in his resume.

My wife cured and saved me from alcohol 25 years ago . She passed away 6 years ago. She made me promise to stay . Life sucks without her . I don't know what happened to Grayson but I understand the struggle 😢

Maybe spend all the increased funding on supporting lower level professionals and not give millions to those who already have millions!

Difficult interview he knows, everyone in the room knows what happened but he can’t say until the family give permission. Immelmann and Nantz wouldn’t have been as upset if it was natural causes. RIP Grayson we all hope this won’t happen ever again and professional sportsmen and sportswomen get the help they need so they don’t have take the ultimate decision . Life is very precious

The only reason Monahan talked to Grayson – was because said Monahan could not be trusted in players meeting — same meeting that Rory said to Grayson just play better — retorted – f*ck You to Rory
Sad he probably took his own life — but for a player who was open about his mental health struggles — then his outspoken views in Players meeting — Did Monahan or PGAT offer him the support needed??

As someone who grew up playing junior golf tours with Grayson from 10 up until 16 or 17 years old I wish people would be more respectful. He seemed to be in a pretty good place and I don’t see him withdrawing while playing decent and giving up the next day. There is a lot more to the story and until it comes out everyone should stop assuming. He may be just a figure on TV to a lot of people but to some he was a son, friend and fiancé.

No one is to blame for a suicide but the person who commits the act. Clearly there is something wrong in the brain of some people and no amount if mental health awareness will change that. I dont believe suicide is preventable by anyone other than the person contemplating it. Devastating for his family, I hope they can find peace knowing he is at peace.

This is awful. Jay needs to go. Like this is the Adam Silver if the sports. It’s just so bad
@bdog123ize 1 week ago
I think he feels bad because he killed this kid with this ridiculous PGA schedule. I hate LiV don’t get that wrong. But the whole point of LiV was for the players getting paid without that cut thing looming over them. Because if you get cut, that means no $$. You just travelled across the country to win nothing. There should a salary for players

This is one of the worst interviews I've ever seen…. Listen Jay in case anybody did never prep you, The tour is going to do everything it can to improve mental health after this horrible tragedy… That's your answer not your wishy-washy stupid answer you just gave I'm embarrassed for the tour
