Bible proves that life begins at conception (2024)

To the editor:

You are correct, sir, we do respect and follow the guidance of God the father, Jesus Christ, his son and the Holy Spirit as set forth in the Holy Bible.

You quote Genesis 2:7 as your proof that life begins with breath: and it did with Adam! However, after God created woman, he told them to “be fruitful and multiply… (Genesis 1:28b). And in Genesis 2:24 we are told “Therefore man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” That is the DNA of the male joining with the DNA of the female to become a new and wholly unique human being. God didn’t say “Here’s the mold for baby boys and here’s the mold for baby girls. Now take three pounds of dirt and six cups of water; when you get it formed into what you want, you need to breathe into its nostrils and it will come alive.”

Rather, scripture gives us many verses that point to personhood prior to birth. In no particular order of importance: Psalm 139:13 “For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb.” Jeremiah 1:4-5 “Then the word of the Lord came to me saying ‘Before you were born I knew you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.'” And of course there is Luke 1:39-44 (This is after the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her she would be the mother of the messiah.) “Now Mary rose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, that when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke with a loud voice and said ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is it granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.'”

We also believe in the inerrancy of the Holy Bible, but have not read the “mythical Bible.” As such, we believe that you are a child of the most high God. Even though you may not believe in him, he believes in and loves you and longs to have you come to know and love him. As to your “biology lesson,” it is correct; but of no value to this discourse since, as Christians, we believe life begins at the moment of conception.
