EVANS 665-6819 By GREGORY MARTIN Morning News Staff Writer The Florence District One school board voted 5-4 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Bruce Crowley at its Thursday night meeting. Board members voting against accepting were Wallace Permenter, Dewey Carter, Lawrence Hill and Dr. Morris Anderson.

Members voting to accept the resignation were Chairman Dr. Belva High, Dr. Eric Heiden, Kitty Allen, Calvin Thomas and Al Cole. Dr. Crowley announced his resignation Jan.

12, saying that there were differences in philosophy between himself and some members of the board. Three citizens spoke at the beginning of the board meeting, urging the board not to accept the superintendent's resignation. These were former elementary school principal Robert L. Johnson, Joe Liposchak and Gladys A. Vinzani.

Kitty Allen made the motion that the board accept Dr. Crowley's resignation and Dr. Clemson Has New Office COLUMBIA (AP) Clemson University has grabbed a prime bit of office space in the new Rembert C. Dennis Office Building next to the Statehouse, and school officials are insisting the special treatment is entirely within bounds. "State business requires us to be in Columbia frequently, and until now we haven't, had a suitable and place to work," said President Bill At-' chley.

BAHAI FAITH For Information Call 393-8430, 393-9438 Anderson asked that the words "with regret and best wishes" be added to the motion. The board agreed unanimously to add these words. Hill stated that, "We are in a very critical time in our building construction and other matters and I would like to encourage our superintendent to stay with the district." Permenter spoke of Dr. Crowley's loyal and dedicated leadership and requested that his vote be recorded against accepting the resignation. After the resignation was accepted, Dr.

High said to Dr. Crowley, "This has been a touchy time for all of us. I'm sorry that I wasn't in town when you announced your resignation." Johnson told the board that the district has made tremendous progress under Dr. Crowley's leadership. He said the district could get no one else with his knowledge and ability for the same salary.

He called the superintendent "a moral individual with a lot of character." He said that if he had one fault it is that he is not a public relations man. Liposchak said he is very sorry to hear about the resignation and that he could not help but feel it was due to some problems on the board itself. He said he hoped the board would refuse to accept the resignation. Mrs. Vinzani noted that some other administrators had also left recently and said "it is a serious thing to lose this many administrators at the same time." She called for cooperation for a better school system.
