Whats the procedure to prepare 1000 ppm Na solution using NaCl? - ECHEMI.com (2024)

1000 ppm Na+ is the same as 1000 mg Na+ in 1.0 L of solution

1000 mg Na+ = 1.0 g Na+

But you have NaCl which will provide the Na+

What mass of NaCl is required to provide 1.0 g Na+:

Molar mass NaCl = 58.45 g/mol

Molar mass Na = 23 g/mol

Mass of NaCl required = 1.0 g Na * 58.45 g /mol NaCl / 23 g/mol Na = 2.54 g NaCl

Weigh out 2.54 g NaCl . Dissolve in distilled water and make up to a final volume of 1.0 L . You now have a 1000 ppm solution of Na+ .
